This is why such a soul experiences excessive sadness and despair soon as signs of its own lack of integrity show up, with the consequence that it immediately feels unacceptable to God.  That’s why a sick soul is always hiding the truth from itself, the mechanism for which is endless self-justification. And why the correction of such a soul is always taken as rejection.

On Helping Souls That Are Being Tried
Do not lose your serenity on account of those who are being tried.  Pray for them; offer the sufferings of My Passion and some acts of self-denial, some self-imposed sufferings for them.”
Jesus to Sister Mary of the Holy Trinity

When souls are being tried, what they need from you is deeper love of Me—so that, through you, I may give them the grace they need.  So you see, you need your serenity even more at such times.  Do not try to buy peace for souls by losing your own!  Offer up your act of self-denial at such times, so that the soul who is suffering may get the grace to accept in joy what she cannot change—through your free offering of love.  You will see more and more how you are all instruments in the communication of My Love, for one another as for yourselves.  The more you will understand that, the more you will love one another.

On Feeling Unloved
Only the realization that I love you now, I, Jesus, who know all your misery, all your sins, the failure of your whole life, only the knowledge that I Who know how underserving you are of anyone‘s love, yet love you nevertheless with the Love of God Himself, can take away the pain and anxiety of feeling unloved by so many persons, and not undeservedly.

The Age of St. Bernard’s is not like Ours.
St. Bernard, commenting on the Canticle (Song of Songs)

"Or perhaps, drawn away and seduced by his own concupiscence, he is still being dangerously tempted. Such a soul as this does not need a Bridegroom but a Physician, and for this reason receives, not kisses or caresses, surely, but only remedies for wounds in oil and ointments."

Yes, Bernard, in your time this was true — for the time had not yet come to force men willy-nilly from the highways and byways to the wedding feast. Men were still strong and able to overcome concupiscence with a help of the Physician less than the Kiss of His Mouth, less than the embrace of His intimacy. But now we are as children, impatient as we are weak, and needing, therefore, to be fondled and kissed by the Mother and her spouse, by Mary and Jesus.  0 Bernard, those of your age, who could help yourselves, needed the Physician only to supply the ointments of which you speak. But we need the Kiss of this Bridegroom who condescends to the weakness of little ones, like this little one who is too weak to help himself and therefore cries out:
"Let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth, for thy breasts are better than wine.  For my justification now is not that I am healed by the ointments of the Physician, but that I am in the arms of His Mother, that it is her purity that makes me worthy of His embrace, not my virtue."

If Something Is Painful
It seems I always assume that if something is painful, it is evil and to be avoided. Then, when I am suffering, I begin to think, and I do not rest until I have discovered some truth which I hope will remove the pain. But I do not think I do this only because I want to avoid suffering: it is rather that I look upon suffering as a sign that I am wrong somehow, that God is displeased with me, and therefore something in me must be changed.

Stations of the Cross

Meditation by an anonymous, 20th Century doctor of souls
and Servant of God

Preface

The whole meaning and purpose of the Stations of the Cross is that you may first prepare to die to yourself, in Jesus, and then die with Him so that, dead to yourself in Him, you may receive everything from the Father. This is the meaning and purpose of your whole life, the perfect preparation for your final death, and for your eternal life in heaven.

And thus, as you follow Jesus to His death, the truth is that it is you at this time, not Jesus in Himself, but Jesus in you, who are going to your Calvary as He went before you. The death Jesus died, He died only once, and now He can die no more, in Himself. But in you He longs to die once again-that He may live in you, which is the fulfillment of His own dying.

Therefore, now, as you follow Jesus on His way, you are not alone.  He, looking across the centuries, sees you in Himself as He sees Himself in you. For as He went to His death, you were perfectly present in His mind, just as you are at this very moment.  It is your desire to console Him as He suffered on His way to Calvary, and that is why you want to follow Him.  It is important, therefore, for you to understand how Jesus wants to be consoled.

It is natural for us to want to console Him as we would want to be consoled in our suffering. And Jesus understands this natural response of our love, and He is grateful for it. But true love always seeks to understand the beloved, and to give him, not so much what we would be moved spontaneously to give him but what the beloved would want to receive.  You must realize, therefore, that the purpose of Jesus in his suffering and dying for us was not primarily to draw our sympathy to Himself but to give Himself to us. And, therefore, you will console Him best, not so much by feeling sorry for Him but by disposing yourself more and more to receive His Love, by suffering with Him and in Him as He would have you suffer, by suffering what He is teaching you to suffer as you follow Him.

The end and purpose of your suffering is to be united with Jesus, and in Him with the Father. And, therefore, you need to suffer by being separated from everything that conforms to your own fallen nature and which would, therefore, keep your heart closed to His Love. That is the suffering which prepares you for His Love, and the love of the Father.  You can only be prepared for the love of the Father by being separated from everything that conforms to yourself, by a loving submission to His violence which will draw you from your own thoughts, your own desires, and from everything that would satisfy them.

This separation from your love of yourself has to be violent because you would never choose it of yourself.  By its very purpose it has to be contrary to your natural inclinations. The Father alone knows and wills what is necessary for you to suffer, and what He sends, in His Loving Wisdom, is just what you need. "Not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of the Father."  And thus, by giving your consent to what you need to suffer, to everything that the Father sends, your suffering is made free and meritorious.

Thus your compassionating of Jesus will consist, not so much in what you give as in what you receive.  You will console Jesus as you suffer with Him, then, by a free submission to His Love, by becoming more and more disposed to receive Him. But to do this you must remove the impediments to His Love from your soul.

What is it in yourself, then, which resists His Love?  It is not your weaknesses, not even your bad habits; Jesus came to save sinners and it is nothing for Him to overcome the most vicious of habits.  No, the impediment to His Love and to His grace is not your weakness, not your bad habits alone; the essential impediment is your lying and your hypocrisy, your deep and hidden desire to convince yourself of your own goodness; your goodness in yourself-when all the force of your experience and of the truth is to convince you of the opposite, that whatever is your own and not in Jesus is corrupt.

Do you not see?  That is what Jesus taught again and again by the example of the scribes and the Pharisees in the Gospel. And who are the scribes and Pharisees? They are the hypocrites and liars, they whose minds were closed to the Truth because they had made themselves the truth, using their minds only to justify and glorify themselves.  Was it not they who crucified Jesus-they, the living embodiment of hypocrisy and lies?  How, then, do you crucify Him if not by your hypocrisy and lies by which you would make yourself just-and Jesus a liar since He came in order to make you just?

If, then, you would console Jesus, is it not clear that you must do the contrary of what the scribes and Pharisees did?  Must you not hate the liar and hypocrite who is yourself outside of Jesus?  If you would console Jesus, is it not clear that you must hate what crucified Him?

And now do you understand a little better? You desire to console Jesus, and He loves you for that. But you cannot console Him except by receiving His Love; but you are indisposed to receive His Love in the measure that you are confirmed in the love of yourself. And what is it that confirms you in your self-love if not the conviction of your hardened heart that you are good in yourself, the conviction of your lies and hypocrisy?  What prevents you from taking delight in Jesus except the delight you take in yourself apart from Him as you deny the testimony of the Spirit of Truth within your own soul?

Your consolation of Jesus, therefore, will be in the joy of your suffering with Him, a joy in the Truth as you see Him destroying the lies which are one with your very being; a joy which realizes how necessary this suffering is to destroy the lies which keep you the slave of Satan.

And now you will be able to see how at each Station Jesus persuades you to turn away a little more from the lies that close your heart to His Love. And then you will learn by the sweet experience of the truth as you suffer with Him how much He desires to give Himself to you, and you will realize that the only limitation of His Love in you is your own indisposition to receive It.

And thus, since the whole purpose of following Jesus is to become one with Him as you die to yourself, to glorify the Father in the knowledge of your nothingness, by your disposition to receive everything from Him as the Son receives everything from the Father, now pray the Our Father with this intention. And since everything which you receive from the Father is received as you are one with Jesus in Mary, now say three Hail Mary's, the first with the intention of receiving everything from the Father with Mary and in Mary, His child now as she is His Child; the second as you are mystically the Mother of Jesus, in Mary, bringing Him forth in souls even as Mary brings Him forth; the third as in Mary you are the spouse of the Holy Spirit as she is His Spouse.

Finally, consider that the Father is glorified by us as we are one, each in the other in Jesus, as He is One with the Father, and then say a Glory Be to the Father to the Blessed Trinity for that intention, that we may be one, each in the other in Jesus, as He is One with the Father in the Love of the Holy Spirit.

FIRST STATION:  JESUS IS CONDEMNED TO DEATH

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

"My beloved child, unite yourself with Me now in My condemnation, in the realization that My condemnation is mystically, but really and truly, your condemnation with Me and in Me.  Realize, too, that as I was being condemned you were present to Me exactly as you are kneeling beneath My image now, and that you were My joy and consolation as I was condemned because you will to die with Me. And now understand that your condemnation is both just and necessary to your joy and happiness.  Yes, it is My Father and yours Who is condemning you to die, to die to the death of your sins, and especially to die to the death of all those lies by which you have sought your whole life to justify yourself.  Yes, this condemnation is the loving judgment of the Father who decrees that you must die to all your lies, that you must die in Me, the Truth, in order that you may live with Me and in Me, receiving with Me everything from the Father because we have nothing in Ourselves.  That is the meaning of Our condemnation, Mine in My innocence and yours in your guilt, but in My innocence, too.  At the moment of your physical death nothing but the truth will remain, nothing but what is, in Me Who Am, nothing but Truth, in Me Who Am Truth. Then the futility of all your lies will appear in the light of Truth. But that is the death which you are already beginning to die now, with Me, the death to your own death in My death.  And that is the perfect preparation for your final death; I will be with you then as you are with Me now. Do not fear death; death is your friend when you have lived to die in Me."

(And now say Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be to the Father, O Jesus, forgive us our sins, etc.  As you rise to walk to the next Station, say:  "Jesus, Mary, I love you!  Save souls!" three times, to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.)

SECOND STATION:  JESUS RECEIVES HIS CROSS

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

"As I was accepting My Cross, at that very moment in My Passion, I foresaw you, with all your love for Me, just as you are now.  I was exhausted by the scourging and by the sufferings of the night, but I saw you as you are exhausted now by your scourging in the dark night of your trials, your trials in Me as you were being purified in Me to suffer with Me.  Yes, you, too, have been scourged! I feel your sufferings, your weariness in Mine. Do you understand a little how I suffer in you?  I am with you in all your suffering; I suffer everything for you and with you and in you. You are not alone, as you so frequently think, and the more you unite your suffering with Mine, the more you will let them be Mine, the less alone you will feel.  It is true:  My burden is light, and My yoke is sweet-but you must let it be My burden, you must let Me carry it.

"Yes, you, too, have been scourged. Do you not see a little more now of the depth of My compassion for you in the silence of My suffering? That is the way of My compassion, to suffer with you silently. See My grief for you now!  See!  I am not preoccupied with My Own sufferings. Their whole meaning and purpose is to reassure you of My Love for you in your suffering. Do not think, as some of My misguided children have told you-or made you feel-that My purpose here is to convince you that My suffering is so much greater than yours!  No, My purpose is only to show you the depth of My tenderness, My compassion for you, My dearest child. My purpose is not to move you to appreciate My suffering for you, but to convince you of how much I appreciate your suffering for Me.

"See, then, how very much I love you!  See how I have made all your suffering My Own!  Only believe that I love you!  Ah, if only you would believe that!..... And yet, I would not want you to feel sad because you are unable to appreciate and fathom My Love for you. No, I only want you to know how much I love and accept you.  Only come to Me now, and let Me love you. Do not try to suffer for Me first!  That way you will only force your love. But love Me spontaneously by letting Me show you how much I love you first. Then you will want to suffer for Me-in order to allow Me to give Myself to you.  No, I do not want you to try to force your love.  "Rise after you have sat, you who eat the bread of sorrow."  Rise to suffer after you have sat in contemplation of My Love for you.

"And do not, therefore, take My suffering as a rebuke!  Alas! How little is My Love understood when even My dying for you is interpreted as My rejecting you! -As though I were saying bitterly:  'Do you see how bad you are?  Even when you see Me dying for you, you cannot love Me!'  No, that is the very opposite of what I would tell you.  What I am saying to you is this: 'Do you see how eager I am to do for you what I know you are unable to do for yourself?!'  Do you understand?  All this I am suffering is made over to you.  I have come to suffer for you because I knew you could not of yourself do what was necessary to make peace with God. I have come to die for you because you could not die for yourself. I have not come to scold you!  My heart is broken to see you the slave of sins you cannot overcome by your own strength. And I am God!  Not only am I suffering what you could not suffer, but My suffering is God's suffering-and I give you My suffering, God's suffering.  By the power of My Passion not only is it exactly as though you, yourself, had died for your sins-ah, it is so much more than that!  For now it is not merely that in Me you are dying for your sins-in Me you are God dying for your sins!  There is no further price to pay; I have paid for everything.  You must only receive what I have given you.

"I am the Redeemer, not you!  I have bought you back at the great price of My Life, the Life of God. I have given you My Life, not merely as a friend dies for a friend.  No!  But I have given you My Life in the sense that I have made over My Life to you!  In Me you are become God dying for your sins. Everything is paid for.  You have only to receive what I have given you.

"As you see Me receiving My Cross, as you are receiving it with Me, try to understand a little of the Infinite Tenderness of My Love for you. Ah! To think that what I am doing would be interpreted in a way to humiliate you-you, My dearest child! No!  It is I Who desire to be humiliated, it is I Who am concerned with what you have suffered.  Only let Me love you! Then you will understand!  Then you will see how much I need your generosity-in order to be able to give Myself to you, to you and to the souls you are destined to bring to Me.  I need you so much!  Come! Let Me show you My Love for you! Then you will forget yourself in Our Work of Redemption.  Only do not be afraid to let Me Love you! Do not feel that you have to do anything but that. Then you will do everything!"

THIRD STATION:  JESUS FALLS FOR THE FIRST TIME

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

"As you see me falling, understand My falling as a falling with you as you fall, with you and in you.  Do you see how quickly I fell on My way?  That was to reassure you in your falls, to show you how much I understand your weaknesses, and how anxious I am to be with you in your failures, to convince you that we are falling together.  Yes, that is what happens when you fall:  I fall with you so that you may have My strength to rise with Me, so that we fall and rise together, I always with My Beloved.

“I permit you to fall only to make your love of Me pure, to teach you to love Me only because I am so Good, to teach you how much I love you no matter how weak and wretched you are in yourself. That is your most important lesson:  you have to know how much I love you in order to be able to love Me as I want to be loved. Do you understand this, that your love of Me is only the reality of your permitting Me to love you, of your letting Me love you by believing in My Love?  They are not two things, My loving you and your loving Me.  No!  The reality of My loving you, the reality of your receiving My Love, is that you are loving Me-just as the reality of the fire heating the water is in the water's becoming hot. It is so important for you to see this; it has so much to do with the purity of your love!  Yes, the purity of your love!  For your love is pure when it contains only what comes from Me, when you give Me only what I have given you. As soon as you try to love Me with a love that does not come from Me, your love becomes impure. Think here of the words sung by My most pure Mother: 'Henceforth all generations shall call me blessed: for He who is mighty hath done great things to me.'  What does she see in herself, she who is all pure?  She sees herself exactly as I see her; that is her purity. She sees herself entirely in Me, she sees everything in herself in Me, coming from Me even as she possesses it. When she loves Me, she knows that her love of Me is My Love of Myself, that she has nothing which she has not received from Me, that she glorifies Me just in this, that My Glory is known in her, by her.

"Therefore, think very much of this, that I ask you only to give Me what I have given you, to love Me with My Love; and realize, therefore, that the reason and purpose of everything you do is to allow me to act in you.  And the more you try to do this, the more you will believe in My Love for you-because you will have permitted Me to give it to you more.  You must use your freedom for this alone, to allow Me to act in you, to live in you. And the more you permit Me to love you, the more I will show you what you are in yourself, your utter misery without Me-not to reject you, but to draw you more and more closely to My Heart. It is My delight to see you trust Me more and more as you see more and more of your own misery.  It is My joy to give you this precious grace of boundless trust in My Love for you. That is how I sanctify you; that is how you become Me."

FOURTH STATION:  JESUS MEETS HIS MOTHER

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

"As I saw My Mother, I saw you, My beloved child, in her and she saw you in Me. That is Our Love for you.  Can you understand it a little?  Our Love for you is Our Love for one another. As we look at each other, We are thinking of you, loving you. Without saying a word, My Mother understands that I am being taken away from her so that she may love you, that she may love Me in you.  It is through her love of you, her seeing Me in you, that you become Me. That is the model of your love, to love others, not for what they are in themselves, but for what they are in Me, for what I made them to be, to love Me in them.

"Now, as you contemplate our meeting, do not think of it as our meeting by ourselves!  This is not the reality of Our Love.  It is you who are Our Love of One another; it is you we are meeting in One another.

"As you see your Mother's broken heart while she looks at Me, realize that her pity is for you, for Me in you, that she is sending Me to My death so that she can love you, that she wills to be separated from Me in order to love you.  You need so very much to understand your Mother's love, and to believe in it!  'They have made me the keeper of the vineyards; my vineyard I have not kept.'  I am her Vineyard Whom they took away from her. You are the vineyard she is keeping.

"But see!  She is not grieving for Me alone-because now she sees you going to your death; she sees you in Me, and Me in you. As she looks at Me, she knows it is you in Me whom she is sending to his death. See!  She is that Rachel, hers that voice of lamentation, of mourning and weeping, weeping for her children, and refusing to be comforted for them, because they are not.

"Can you see that it is only by her love of you that you are here with Me?  She whose life is to love Me wills to be separated from Me, Her Life, so that she may be able to love you. But do not try now, because you are too little to understand her love for you yet. You will have to grow in her, by learning to die with Me, in her, in order to understand her love.  It is enough, now, the little that you do understand."

FIFTH STATION:  SIMON THE CYRENEAN HELPS JESUS
CARRY HIS CROSS

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

"Yes, Simon is the living symbol of yourself.  To Me, as you kneel beneath this image, you are Simon helping Me to carry My Cross. That is exactly how I saw you at that moment of My Passion.  Unite yourself with Me across the centuries, therefore, as we carry Our Cross together. Do you understand what is happening here?  As you are helping Me to carry My Cross, I am carrying all of yours. That is why I need your help-because you cannot carry your cross alone.

"Do you understand what it means to carry your cross?  Let Me teach you a little. Think!  Ask yourself:  what was it that crucified Me? It was not the wood of the Cross, and the nails. They were only the instruments of My Crucifixion.  Neither was it the men who nailed Me to the Cross.  They, too, were only instruments, human instruments.  No!  I was crucified by sin, the sins of the whole world, from the beginning, I Who am without sin!  And, therefore, as you carry your cross, you are crucified with Me, by your sins!  That is your part.  But how do you carry the burden of your sins?  By uniting yourself with Me in the Spirit of My Truth, with Me Who am Truth, as Simon is here united with Me, by understanding in Me what you are in yourself, by understanding not merely your sinful acts, but the roots of your sins, your enslavement to sin, your love of evil-see how spontaneously you are attracted to it!-your love of lies, your hatred of the Truth, your lust to rejoice in yourself, your envy of My Goodness.

“That is what it is to carry your cross with Me, to see what you are in yourself-and then to love Me.  You pick up your cross when you face what you are in yourself; you follow Me when you love Me in the knowledge of what you are without Me, the Truth, and in the Truth you see what you are outside of the Truth.  When you carry your cross you are being freed from all the lies that confirm you in evil, the lies that close your heart to My Goodness.  When you carry your cross, you are with Me in our Mother, and you know the Truth.  Do you see the order of My Wisdom?  It is after I meet My Mother, after you are with Me in Our Mother, that you help Me carry My Cross. That is to teach you that it is with Me in Mary that you are transformed into Me by the Spirit of Truth. Then you help Me carry the Cross, then you begin to die to your own death."

SIXTH STATION:  VERONICA COMFORTS JESUS

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

“Now that you have been carrying My Cross with Me a little, what has happened?  Now you are My Veronica.  That is how I saw you in her, just as you are now, kneeling before My Image, desiring to comfort Me.  And now contemplate the mystery of this loving interchange; you compassionate Me, you seek to console Me.  And I, in loving gratitude for your act of sympathy, what do I do?  I give you My Image!  My face on Veronica's veil is only a symbol.  You are My Veronica, consoling Me-and through your consolation I am able to give you-Myself!  You have become My Living Likeness; that is My consolation-to be able to give you Myself-through your love.”

SEVENTH STATION:  JESUS FALLS A SECOND TIME

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

“Can you understand how I see you now?  I have given you Myself, My Likeness, and now it is you who falls as I fall.  But because you are one with Me now, you can see the truth, you can see yourself as you fall.  You can see your weaknesses because you are in the Truth.  You no longer need to justify your sins and your weaknesses in your blindness.  You no longer need to lie, because you understand My Love for you; you understand that My Love accepts you as you are.  Yes, now that you are united with Me, you can see yourself as you are-because you are in the Truth.  That is the truth that it is I Who fall in your falls, that is the truth of My Love for you.  Now we are one, and you have the strength to rise again in My Strength because you understand that I have fallen with you.  And now, as you rise in My Strength, you are permitting Me to give My Love, through you, to those who do not know Me, and who, because they do not know Me, do not know themselves.  Do you see how to know Me is to know that you are loved?  How could it be otherwise, since I am Love?  And now, knowing that you, loved by Me Who am omnipotent, you are able to face and understand the truth of your own miserable weakness-and in the very knowing of your weakness, you have the fortitude to rise in hope.”

EIGHTH  STATION:  JESUS COMFORTS THE WOMEN
OF JERUSALEM

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

“And now that you are beginning to see your weakness in yourself, having experienced a little of My Goodness through your falls, your love for Me is becoming more pure.  Now you no longer try to comfort My poor Body as Veronica did-now you realize a little that My suffering is because of My Love for you, that My desire is not to be relieved of My physical suffering.

“But still you do not understand Me, and you do not know what to do to comfort Me.  That is why you weep now; you weep for Me because you see Me suffering and you do not know how to comfort Me.  And so I tell you how I want to be comforted and consoled.  I tell you that you must weep for yourself, for yourself and for your sins.  I ask you to mourn for yourself as dead in your sins, to mourn for yourself as Martha and Mary mourned for Lazarus, dead and stinking in the tomb.  You will comfort Me now by weeping for yourself as dead and buried in the tomb of your own corruption.  That is My comfort at this station, that you have grown in wisdom and understanding to this point, so that now at last you can learn how to comfort Me-by opening your soul totally to My Love in the knowledge of your own corruption in yourself.”

NINTH  STATION:  JESUS FALLS THE THIRD TIME

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

“And now once again your fall as I fall with you.  You see, as you carry My Cross with Me you become weaker and weaker in yourself, as you are made stronger and stronger in Me.  That is a great mystery which you will understand more and more, which you can understand only by your own experience of it in Me.

“Now you see your sins more and more in My Light and now, therefore, you are able to obey My command to weep for yourself.  And now you truly comfort Me-because as you die more and more to yourself in this knowledge of your misery, I am able to give Myself to you more and more.  And that is the one thing that truly comforts Me.  But I give Myself to you yet more.  For it is not yet time to die.  We can still rise once again, you and I-for now We do everything together.  It is not yet time to die because you have not yet given Me everything-and therefore I have not yet been able to give you everything.  Come, let us rise together, My Beloved, My Consolation!”

TENTH  STATION:  JESUS IS STRIPPED OF HIS GARMENTS

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

“You see!  Is it not true that We had not yet been stripped of everything?  That is what is happening to us more and more as We progress on Our Way.  We have almost nothing left now-but we still possess things we would want to give to others, to those We love-as I would have wanted to give My tunic to My Mother.  Yes, you still need to be purified in your love; you still want to give things to those you love, things that come from you alone, and not from me, because you do not yet understand that true love gives only what comes from the Father, you must have nothing of your own, nothing, nothing!

“Ah, My beloved child!  How good you are!  How much I love you as you let yourself be stripped of everything with Me!  Do you see?  Now I no longer ask you to love Me; now I love you, all-and that is one and the same thing as your loving Me, all.  Now there is nothing left for Us to do, except to die together!  Come with Me, My beloved!”

ELEVENTH  STATION:  JESUS IS NAILED TO THE CROSS

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

“Now, My little beloved, you are fixed to Me, now your heart is My Heart.  This is the beginning of Our death together, you fixed to Me as I am fixed to the Cross.  Now you can only will what I will, to die to yourself in My death.  Now at last you are all Mine!  My beloved, My very little beloved, how dear you are to Me now!  Now nothing can separate you from the Truth, you in Me, and I in you as We die together.  That is the victory of My Life in you, your death in Me, in My death, the victory of My Life over your death, the victory of My truth over your lies.  And now let us go to die together, My beloved, for our work is not yet finished.”

TWELFTH  STATION:  JESUS DIES ON THE CROSS

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

"Do you see?  We have not yet given everything.  That is the meaning of death-not merely that your life is taken away from you, but that you have to die in order to have nothing left in yourself to give.  By your death you give Me everything, and everything you give Me is yours forever.  By your death you give Me everything so that I can give you everything.  By your death you become nothing, so that you can become Me.

“But you do not become nothing just by dying.  That is not the way I died, and it is not the way you are dying with Me.  No!  You die in Me by freely giving your life, as I gave My Life when I chose to give it.  So you give yours, freely, because now your will is Mine, and you freely will to die, therefore, when I will you to die.

“And now see with Me, in My last words, what there is still left for Us to give.  'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.' Yes, My child, you have suffered many injustices as you were in Me, the injustices I suffered in you.  But I have taught you to be scarcely aware of what you suffered unjustly at the hands of the children of men.  And now, at the moment of death, you have a claim of justice.  This is the first thing I want you to give away.  Because with Me your only purpose in all you suffered was to receive My Mercy-not only for yourself, but in all the souls I had given you.

“And this is how you receive My Mercy, for yourself and for them.  The souls I have given you are those for whom and by whom you have suffered, in Me.  And now, in Me, make over all that suffering to My Mercy, so that you, like Me and with Me, may repay persecution with love. . . And now you possess no claim on anyone: as I repaid your sins with Love, so now you have repaid those who offended you with My Love in you, with your Love.  Now no one owes Us anything and We have repaid Our debt of Love.  'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'  Let every injury I have suffered unjustly become the means of grace for him who injured Me.  Forgive them, Father, because they do not know Your Love, they do not know that it is God that they are persecuting, they do not understand that I would that they be saved by what I suffer through them.

“'Woman, behold thy son . . . . Behold thy Mother.'  With these words I gave you My Mother, and now, with Me, you give her to your children.  For she is your Mother as you are one with Myself.  I did not keep My Mother for Myself, so that souls might have her, and now you with Me must give her to souls.  Now there is nothing left for Us: everything is for the Father, for the souls the Father has given Us.  Now we give up all delight in Our Mother, so that souls who do not know her may have her for their Mother.

“'Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with Me in Paradise.'  Even as I died I saved him who called on Me, and so, as you are dying there are those who are depending on you to be with Me in paradise.  Unlike Me, you do not know who they are by your own knowledge; you know them only in Me, in Faith, but in heaven you will know them and rejoice with them for all eternity.  Do you see, then, how this word of Mine is the fulfillment of the previous one?  Yes, when you gave away your Mother, you gave her to the soul who asks you now, in Me, for your prayers.  Now give your Mother, therefore, to him who is begging you, in Me, for your prayers.  Now give your Mother, therefore, to him who is begging you, in Me, for her, so that he may be with Me; give her very specially to those who are dying at this very moment, to sinners who would otherwise be lost, were it not for your love.  Say, then, with Me, to the sinners dying at this moment, 'Amen, I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with Me in Paradise.'  This is My Power which I give to you, which is now yours because you have loved Me with your whole heart.  And now that you are dying in Me, and with Me, you are not going to the Father alone, but with all those I have given you to bring to Me.  Therefore, give them the strength and the courage they need: say to them with Me: 'Amen I say to thee, this day thou shalt be with Me in Paradise.'

“'My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?'  O, My beloved, you who understand with Me the price My Love has paid for you, pity Me now as I am separated from the Father so that you may be with Him.  You who understand a little of the depth of My Love, pity Me now as I am separated from My Own Being for you!  Pity Me, that I may give you My Father as I have given you My Mother, in the full measure of My Love.  For even now My desire to be loved and to be pitied is that I may give you everything!  No!  Until now, much as you have loved Me, you have not understood My Love for you.  You must die with Me, you must be separated from the Father with Me to know what My Love is.  Until now you have not understood that My Love for you is identical with My Love for Myself.  Here, as you see Me separated from the Father, you can understand, as you die with Me, a little of what this means.  Do you see?  To love Myself means for Me to be Loved by My Father; I have no other Love except that, the Love of My Father in the Holy Spirit.  All My Love, like everything I have, is given to Me by My Father.  And as I am loved, so I Love you.  And, therefore, when I see you without the love I would want you to have, My very Own Love, I Myself am separated from Love, I am separated from My Father in Whom is all My Love, Our Love, the Love of the Holy Spirit.  O My beloved, now ask that you may die with Me in order to understand and receive My Love.  I, Love, am now separated from Love, in order that you may love, that you may be united with Love.  Do you see, My little beloved?  Do you see that as I Love Myself, so I Love You?  There is no difference!  Do you see a little of what this means?  Do you see that My need to love you is My need to love Myself?  Can you see, then, what you do to Me when you do not permit Me to love you?  Can you see that then you refuse to permit Me, God, to love Myself, to be Myself?  Yes, together now you can understand this Mystery of My Love for you, now you can understand a little of the agony of My Love for you, rejected by so many, by so very many!  Now you can feel with Me a little of My desolation in being separated  from My Life, from My Father, from My God, I Who am God!  'My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?'

“'I thirst.'  Do you understand the meaning of this cry?  I thirst for My Father now because I cannot love Him in souls.  I thirst for love, and My need for Love cannot be satisfied because My Father cannot love Me in souls.  That is how I thirst for souls: I thirst to be Myself in Souls.  I thirst for your love of Me in souls, your love which is My Love.  I thirst that by My Love in you souls may become Me, that the Father may love Me in them as He loves Me in Myself.  I thirst because when He cannot love Me in them I am separated from Him.  Do you see how true it is, My little beloved, that I love you as I love Myself?

“'It is consummated.'  Yes, now everything is accomplished.  I have given away My justification in Myself to make you just in Me; in Me your sins have bought your salvation.  I have given you My Mother, I have separated Myself from her that she might be yours.  I have given you all the souls you were ordained to bring to Me, from the beginning.  I have given you My Father, My Life, separating Myself from Him as I was separated from My Mother, that He may be yours forever.  And I have left you My one plea, for souls!  I have left you My thirst.  Now everything is finished.  I have done everything the Father gave Me to do, and you have done what I have done-in Me.  And now, as I die, let your dying to yourself be consummated in My death!  My little beloved, come now, we are dying together-My little beloved!

“'Into Thy hands I commend My Spirit.'  Yes, that is the way We die together, not violently, as though the separation of soul from body, willed by My Father were something contrary to Our Will, but freely and lovingly, giving the Father from Whom everything is, Our spirit, Our soul animated by His grace.  For now everything is returned to the Father.  As We have lived, so now We die, wanting only what the Father wants, wanting it only because He wants it, adoring His Providence in the perfect trust of His Son.”

THIRTEENTH  STATION:  JESUS IS LAID IN HIS
MOTHER'S ARMS

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

"Now you have died with me, and in Me My Mother holds you in her arms.  For now your life is only in her.  In the living tabernacle of My Mother you are the human manifestation of Myself: as My Humanity is hidden in the Eucharist, so is My Divinity hidden in you-so that others may by Faith see Me in you as you see Me in them.  But you must remain in your tabernacle as I remain in Mine, living in Mary and dead to everything that is not in her, continuing to receive My Life in her as It began in her, and as It will be forever.  'We shall rejoice in thee, remembering thy breasts better than wine.'  Yes, in heaven, for all eternity, We shall rejoice in Mary Our Mother, remembering forever the graces which came to Us through her, that they lifted us out of ourselves to the very Divinity.

“And now think, as Mary held Me, dead in her arms, that it was a manifestation of her power, that she holds in her hands the whole sensible Sign of the Redemption, My dead Body.  So let her hold you always in her arms, dead to yourself, yet with Me the living sign of the Redemption.  And now only this remains, that My dead Body be placed in the tomb, to rise as your body, dead with Me, will rise in the day of the Resurrection.”

FOURTEENTH  STATION:  JESUS IS LAID IN THE SEPULCHER

(Genuflect, saying:  "We adore, Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."  Then kneel)

“I died to My Own Life, that I might live in yours.  And you have died with Me, My beloved!  And now, as you are buried in the silence and darkness of your own death, you will hear My Voice more and more within you, and you will rise in My Strength.”

(And now say Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be to the Father, O Jesus, forgive us our sins, etc.  In conclusion, say:  "Jesus, Mary, I love you!  Save souls!" three times, to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.)
