This is why such a soul experiences excessive sadness and despair soon as signs of its own lack of integrity show up, with the consequence that it immediately feels unacceptable to God.  That’s why a sick soul is always hiding the truth from itself, the mechanism for which is endless self-justification. And why the correction of such a soul is always taken as rejection.
On Helping Souls That Are Being Tried
Do not lose your serenity on account of those who are being tried.  Pray for them; offer the sufferings of My Passion and some acts of self-denial, some self-imposed sufferings for them.”

When souls are being tried, what they need from you is deeper love of Me—so that, through you, I may give them the grace they need.  So you see, you need your serenity even more at such times.  Do not try to buy peace for souls by losing your own!  Offer up your act of self-denial at such times, so that the soul who is suffering may get the grace to accept in joy what she cannot change—through your free offering of love.  You will see more and more how you are all instruments in the communication of My Love, for one another as for yourselves.  The more you will understand that, the more you will love one another.
On Feeling Unloved
Only the realization that I love you now, I, Jesus, who know all your misery, all your sins, the failure of your whole life, only the knowledge that I Who know how underserving you are of anyone‘s love, yet love you nevertheless with the Love of God Himself, can take away the pain and anxiety of feeling unloved by so many persons, and not undeservedly.
 The Age of St. Bernard’s is not like Ours.
St. Bernard, commenting on the Canticle (Song of Songs)

"Or perhaps, drawn away and seduced by his own concupiscence, he is still being dangerously tempted. Such a soul as this does not need a Bridegroom but a Physician, and for this reason receives, not kisses or caresses, surely, but only remedies for wounds in oil and ointments."

Yes, Bernard, in your time this was true — for the time had not yet come to force men willy-nilly from the highways and byways to the wedding feast. Men were still strong and able to overcome concupiscence with a help of the Physician less than the Kiss of His Mouth, less than the embrace of His intimacy. But now we are as children, impatient as we are weak, and needing, therefore, to be fondled and kissed by the Mother and her spouse, by Mary and Jesus.  0 Bernard, those of your age, who could help yourselves, needed the Physician only to supply the ointments of which you speak. But we need the Kiss of this Bridegroom who condescends to the weakness of little ones, like this little one who is too weak to help himself and therefore cries out:
"Let him kiss me with the kiss of his mouth, for thy breasts are better than wine.  For my justification now is not that I am healed by the ointments of the Physician, but that I am in the arms of His Mother, that it is her purity that makes me worthy of His embrace, not my virtue."
If Something Is Painful
It seems I always assume that if something is painful, it is evil and to be avoided. Then, when I am suffering, I begin to think, and I do not rest until I have discovered some truth which I hope will remove the pain. But I do not think I do this only because I want to avoid suffering: it is rather that I look upon suffering as a sign that I am wrong somehow, that God is displeased with me, and therefore something in me must be changed.

You must understand that all your deficiencies, even those that come from your past sins and vicious habits, are part of My Loving Providence for you, allowed by Me so that they might bring you to Me.
And that it is just with those deficiencies, just the way you are now, that I would love you and have you come to Me. Therefore you must overcome the habit of judging how you would make yourself acceptable to Me. When you do this you are putting your providence, your wisdom before Mine. It is My Wisdom that tells you, “The way you are acceptable to Me, the way I want to Love you, is the way you are now, with all your defects and deficiencies. I could wipe them out in a moment if I wanted to, but then I could not love you the way I want to love you, the way you are – now!”

Remember this, when you suffer, whatever the cause, I am asking you to be separated from something you love very much so that I can give Myself to you that much more.

 When I take everything else away from you, and you have nothing except My Name, Jesus and Mary, and when you say these Names with joy and contentedness, My joy is so great that I would create the universe once again and die on the Cross once more too, just to hear you speak My Name and the Name of My Blessed Mother. At that moment, too, not only do I forget your sins, but I am glad for them, because they have brought you to rejoice in Me alone.


The relation with God has no dimension. It is now, now or never.

God is out of time, and eternally He waits for your realization of Him – now. It is not, therefore, a matter of being converted once and for all. Each moment is a little conversion, and a little death, and His delight is to be with the children of men, who, because they are so little and helpless, are always turning to Him.


O Jesus, I am in love with Truth, and the lie of my being nails me to the Cross with you.

The invisible work of silence — of giving yourself to Me.
It is your silence in giving yourself to Me that enables Me to teach you how to efface yourself, how not to disturb others, how to be cheerful. Above everything I make your soul transparent by removing anything of yourself that would hide Me in you. Souls must be able to see Me in you, and more and more clearly. But they must see Me and not you—just as when I work in you I keep Myself hidden. When it is only Myself that you love in yourself, souls will see only Me in you. A transparent soul is one that lives only in Me, whose eye is single, therefore, who seeks her justification only in Me and in My Mother.
I communicate Myself to you when you allow Me to work through you, and when you allow Me to work through you, I communicate Myself, through you, to others. Then you are like a clean window which is not only illuminated by My Light, but which illuminates everyone in the house. Whatever you seek outside of Me is darkness and obscurity, and unclean. 

You must be on your guard
against “doing good." 
That is a subtle temptation into which many of My children fall. It is another of those ‘compromises,’ an attempt to satisfy nature by making it appear supematurally motivated by charity. By nature you are always seeking what conforms to you, you are always trying, more or less unconsciously, to make what you would like spontaneously the measure of what you ought to do. And then, since you know by faith that charity, love, is more important than anything else, you are tempted to convince yourself, or at least try to convince yourself, that the desire to communicate your own goodness is My charity. No! what you are doing in that activity is drawing souls to yourself, away from Me, and you are being led away from Me with them. Does this mean that no one should be concerned with the problems of others? No, but those whose duty it is know it by their state of life. And a further sign I give such persons is this, that they are acutely aware of the danger of drawing souls to themselves instead of to Me; when I want a person to be concerned with the problems of others, I have ways of keeping them in close contact with Me as they are helping others. And those who neglect those means, even if it is a duty of their state of life to help others, fall into grievous sins, interiorly or exteriorly. So you see, in the end everything is the same; it is I Who must do the work, and those who take over what is Mine have to learn by hard experience. But as for you, you know by your state of life that your way of helping souls is in the silence of your heart as you are lost in Mine.

I am moved by one thing, your love, the act of giving yourself to Me.
The physical pain and privation of your penances do not move Me in themselves. There again, you are tempted to make the sensible reality the measure. By such a measure it might seem that an act is more meritorious because it is more painful to you. Frequently that is in fact the case, because a more painful sacrifice would tend to be motivated by a deeper love. But it is the love, and the love alone, that makes it precious to Me. However, I want to warn a certain type of person of the opposite error. There are those who use this truth, that I am moved only by love, as an excuse to avoid all mortification. Such persons indulge themselves. And such persons are very apt to disparage the mortifications of the body. But the fact is that it is very easy for the body to become a kind of tyrant, and to be ruling the mind even as the latter is lost in ‘spiritual thoughts.’ There is only one solution to this problem—as to every other—to love! .The philosophers teach that the right thing to do in the given time, place and circumstances, is what a prudent man would do in those circumstances. For you, I am that ‘prudent man’: you have to know what I would do in order to act prudently—you cannot reduce prudence to a formula. And how are you going to know what I would do unless I tell you? And how can I tell you unless you listen? There is only one thing more you can do. If you have any doubts, ask your director or confessor what to do, and do it. His voice is Mine, and I rejoice in your obedience to him—even if what he tells you is not what I would tell you. But in that case it is not My will to tell you. When you love Me, when you are obedient to the authorities I have given you, you are infallible. And I rejoice in your infallibility—it is a mark of your transformation into Me.

How much I need you who understand and love Me to move others to receive, to be willing to receive what you have received!
Do you understand how close I have made you to one another, how much each one depends on the love of the other? Do you see the meaning of My Heart when I show you the weakness and limitations of one of your Sisters? It is My way of begging you to love her, to love Me in her, to suffer for her, so that through you I can give her what she needs. It means that I want you to go out of your way to show her your love, not only in Me as we are hidden each in the others, but sensibly. As My Humanity was the instrument of My Divinity, so now I depend on your humanity to manifest jny Love. Do not hide your light behind a bushel.

Sin is disordered love, loving something in the creature outside of Me, loving it too much in the creature because you do not love it enough in Me, because you do not love Me enough.
Do not try to correct sin by inhibiting your love. It is the disorder in the love, not the love, that you must change. Your capacity to love is the energy I give you, by which you will be transformed into Me, by loving everything you love in Me. It is pride which seeks, unconsciously to destroy love—because it sees the love is not pure enough. But that is the inspiration of Satan, of him who cannot love, who hates love; it is not My inspiration. I always tell you to cherish your love, your tenderness, to make it greater and greater—by directing it to Me.
Your capacity to hate is necessary too. I gave you that so that you might learn to hate everything in yourself that is not in Me. In that way hatred itself becomes the instrument of loving. That is the order I established. Beware of destroying it in the name of charity! So many souls, in their ignorance of Me, are afraid of love! Alas! they do not see that they are virtually adoring Satan, making the disorder in their loving more powerful than My Love. Do you want to know why they do this? It is because they do not believe that I can love them with all their miseries: they feel that they must be perfectly pure in themselves before they can come to Me. They do not understand My Mother, their Mother. They do not see that she is their purity, that it is in her that they are acceptable to Me, that it is when they are in Mary that her purity becomes theirs. Yes, sin is disordered love, but only Love can correct the disorder, only I can remove sin as you are with Me in Our Mother. But do not try to correct the disorder of love by destroying the love! I want your love to be hidden as My Love is hidden, as My Mother’s love is hidden—and silent! How often what you think is love is only disguised impurity, the love of what conforms to you, love for yourself—not for the other person, not for Me!

I am Truth!  Think very much of that!  It will help you to grow in the right fear of Me! 
Because I am Truth, only what is true is acceptable to Me. I can only love what is true in you. That is why you have to learn to hate yourself, to hate the lies and hypocrisy which close your soul to My Love, alas! so frequently in the very act of pretending to love Me! You must love Me with your whole mind! You must do everything in your power to understand My Heart. Then you will not be tempted to lie, you will not be tempted to convince yourself of a goodness which you do not have—in order to buy My Love. Because when you understand My Heart, you will know that it is attracted only by your poverty and misery, by truth, the truth by which you know your nothingness and your misery. So many souls have been lost because they did not understand My Heart! Yes, beg Me always to give ou the Spirit of Truth, and pray for that, for all the souls I have given you. Truth is tl .ev to My Heart. Much as I am driven to love you, I cannot love a liar. And do you know what the great lie is? It is to proclaim goodness in yourself outside of Me it is to make yourself God!


Yes, it is true that when you are not loving one another, you are not loving Me.
It is true that as you fail in loving one another, you fail, each of you in herself, in loving Me. But it is also true that your very failures could teach you to love Me more. That is why I permit them, to teach you, by using the very miseries you see in yourself to draw you to Me after they have opened your heart. As it is in your personal failures with Me, so it is with your failures in your relations with one another. And so you can always love Me Sisters. When you are grieved in Me because of that failure, I am grieved with you and for you. When you are grieved because you have not loved your Sisters, you are loving them, in Me. That is how I give you the grace to love one another—through your failures. The deficiencies I show you, whether in yourself or in the community, are never a “problem.” Rather, I should say, they are the true problem. A true problem always has a solution, and the solution is always the same—because I am always the same. The solution, of a true problem, the problem of how to love as you should, is to let Me love you and show you My Will, to accept what is defective in yourself as My Will for you now, at that moment. When you want only what I want for you now, at this moment, I provide what I want for you at the next moment. But what you call a “problem” has no solution, because you want something I do not want. Then you make a “problem” out of that, and wonder why I do not help you solve it! And if you will examine yourself on this, you will discover that your false problem always reduces to this, how to attain a good outside of Me. How to get something which I do not want you to have. For example, you are not successful in overcoming a certain temptation. You make a false problem out of this when you are not willing to accept My actual Will for you at this point, namely that you fail in your effort to overcome the temptation. Does this mean that I will what is evil? You know I do not! But it does mean that I permit you to fail. How, otherwise, would you fail? Is the evil greater than I? And what is worse, you hide your resistance to My Will under the appearance of a virtuous desire, the desire to overcome evil. (At times you are even tempted to think that it is I Who do not want you to overcome it!) Then you begin to wonder why you continue to fail when you ”pray” so much to Me, and try so hard by your own effort. Is it any wonder that, in this state, I would appear as a monster? But the real monster is yourself, the liar who will not believe in My Love for her, who is more disposed to believe in the purity of her own love than in Mine, and who even prays to Me, the Truth, to cooperate with her and help her in her lies. And why, do you think, I refuse to help you? The fact is I am helping you to see the truth about yourself. But you do not want Me to help you to do that. You want Me to help you to convince yourself that you have some virtue in yourself which you do not have. Yu want Me to help you to get along without Me!
And so here, in this problem of loving one another, the grace I am giving you now is the grace you need now, the grace to see how little is the love you have for one another. What you would want, would be to rejoice in the love you have for one anther outside of Me! And then you wonder why I do not give you the “grace” for that! My child, do you see how much I must save you from yourself? Do you see how many things you ask for which would destroy you if I gave them to you? Ponder this truth very much, that each thing I send you is the gift of My Loving Wisdom, that it is just what you need at the moment I send it to you, to grow in your love of Me. But you must use the intelligence I gave you to convince yourself of this truth. The trouble is you do not do this, you do not try to understand My Loving Wisdom, and then you are motivated in your feeling by your wisdom. What can I do, then, except to let you taste the bitter fruit of your wisdom? But the more you think in order to understand My Loving Providence for you, the more you will see that I am always taking care of you, always providing just what you need. I am your Wisdom. Hate your own wisdom!
